Christopher Columbus the Genoese Explorer

Christopher Columbus (Gen. Cristoffa Corombo, It. Cristoforo Colombo, Es. Cristóbal Colón; d. 1506) was a Genoese explorer who is notable for having discovered the Americas, his series of four expeditions there (1492–1493, 1493–1496, 1498–1500, and 1502–1504) in service to the Spanish Crown initiating the colonisation by Western powers of the New World and, pertinently, responsible for introducing tobacco to the Old World.
